Postcard - Wow Westminster

Installed in 2015 as part of the Vancouver Biennale Open Air Museum, “Wow Westminster” became an iconic landmark along the Fraser River in New Westminster. Created by Brazilian artist José Resende, the striking 140-foot sculpture was formed from four shipping containers dramatically balanced into the shape of a “W.” Located at Westminster Pier Park, the installation quickly became a recognizable symbol of the city’s modern waterfront. Although removed in 2020 following significant structural damage caused by the Pier Park fire, Wow Westminster remains an important and memorable piece of New Westminster’s contemporary public art story.
